BNP Paribas wins mandate from Nikko Asset Management for first passive ETF in Hong Kong

24/10/2019

BNP Paribas Securities Services today announced that it has been appointed as custodian and administrator for Nikko Asset Management’s first passive exchange traded fund (ETF) domiciled in Hong Kong.

As part of the mandate, BNP Paribas will provide middle office, custody services, trustee, transfer agent and fund administration to support Nikko Asset Management to issue the Nikko AM Global Internet ETF.

This expands an existing partnership between Nikko Asset Management and BNP Paribas, allowing the asset manager to operate a single model across its full range of funds. The Global Internet ETF has been designed to offer local investors in Hong Kong a unique exposure to tech stocks. As part of its strategy to grow its custodian solutions for passive investment management strategies, BNP Paribas Securities Services has leveraged its ETF expertise in other territories across the world to support this Hong Kong ETF.

Eleanor Seet, Head of Asia ex-Japan at Nikko Asset Management, said:

“We welcome the continued support from BNP Paribas for our growth plans across the Asia ex-Japan region.  This is Nikko AM’s first ETF offering in Hong Kong, and we are pleased to be providing investors with easy and low-cost access to the world’s leading internet companies, across trending themes such as e-commerce, internet of things, social networking, cloud services and e-gaming.  As a leading ETF issuer in an increasingly challenging environment, we are committed to delivering progressive and relevant solutions to our investors.”

Julien Kasparian, Head of BNP Paribas Securities Services Hong Kong, said:

“We are pleased to support Nikko Asset Management in launching its first passively-managed ETF in Hong Kong. ETFs are changing the way investors manage their portfolios and BNP Paribas is helping asset managers to expand their product ranges. This is another milestone in the long standing and valued partnership between Nikko Asset Management and BNP Paribas Securities Services in the region.”

BNP Paribas Securities Services is a leading global custodian with USD 11.6 trillion in assets under custody[1]. BNP Paribas is the recipient of several industry awards, including winner of the Custodian of the Year award from Asia Risk 2019[2].
